The Local Government Leadership Program seeks to prepare local officials with the background and knowledge necessary to undertake their civic responsibility with a passion for effective and ethical public service.

In partnership with the New Mexico Municipal League and the New Mexico Association of Counties, the Local Government Leadership Program equips public officials at every level with the knowledge, connections, and practical skills to serve their communities with vision and impact. Open to municipal, county, and state officials, school board members, the National Guard, and regional councils of government, the program offers dynamic, real-world learning that helps participants navigate the complex challenges of local governance.
Through engaging sessions, participants explore innovative solutions, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen collaboration across New Mexico. It’s about empowering leaders to create positive, lasting change where it matters most - right at home.
The program consists of two 2-1/2 day program session. The curriculum is modeled after the Leadership New Mexico Core Program and offers an opportunity to explore critical issues facing New Mexico and participate in skill-building workshops.

The Local Government Leadership Program welcomes applications from officials across New Mexico. Each class is thoughtfully selected to reflect a balance of geography, sector, experience, gender, and cultural diversity, ensuring a broad range of perspectives that enrich discussion and strengthen collaboration.
